You can keep your mileage low by doing a few things. For example, you can use your vehicle only when doing otherwise will make your life quite difficult. This is especially true for those who live in areas that are blessed with a good mass transit network.
The other option that might work for some people is joining or starting a carpool. The good thing is that you also get to hang out with your pals as you drive to and from work. However, there are challenges with doing this as someone might have a long day at work or something similar. However, there is no challenge that can't be worked out.
