René Magritte - A Man With A Surreal Vision

I was first introduced to René Magritte, about 5 years ago. I didn't expect to become so interested in his work, because it was during an art lesson in school. I always hated art lessons, because I'm terrible at art, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate art. René Magritte, a Belgian artist, has a mysterious past life. Little is known about his childhood, except for the fact that his mother was found in a river, after committing suicide successfully, following from numerous failed attempts. There's something about his work that I find instantly attractive. Maybe it is the intriguing nature of them. A particular piece that sticks in my mind, the first piece of his work that I saw, is ‘The Son of Man’ (1964). Maybe it’s the strange nature of the piece that grabbed my attention the fact that I didn’t and couldn’t understand it. In fact, I don’t understand any of his work. But the mystery is enough to keep me interested, to keep me wondering, to try to figure him out. Now I'm a passionate collector of classic arts on canvas due to my earlier experiences with Magritte's work.
