When you want to find a good dentist or dental center, it is recommended to prioritize establishments that offer multiple dental services. Like any other medical aspect, dental health is a pretty expansive subject that is divided into different areas. There are dentists that aim to provide basic dental procedures, dentists that have mastery in treating children’s oral problems, and dentists that can perform major oral surgeries. Below is a general overview of the basic procedures that a good dental office should offer.
Note that in dentistry, procedures are formally called surgeries, regardless how simple or complicated they are. Hence, do not cringe whenever a dentist or a dental staff tells you that you will have to undergo an oral surgery—most of the time, they only mean prophylaxis or a simple tooth extraction.
Dentists are well-trained to facilitate basic tooth extraction. There are few common causes why this should be done. One of them is the emergence of a wisdom tooth. You should be informed, however, that just because a tooth is classified as wisdom tooth does not mean that it needs to be removed. Dentists however often recommend extraction for preventive and hygienic purposes. For instance, the tooth may have grown impacted or trapped below the gum line, and this may result in teeth misalignment. It may also have developed infection because of trapped plaque and food, something that may lead to tooth decay.
A tooth extraction should also be performed if the teeth couldn’t be saved through repair procedures anymore because of severe tooth decay or root fracture. Sometimes, the dentist may also recommended removal of tooth in spite of the absence of problem in order to accommodate orthodontic projects like placing braces or retainers.
These surgeries basically concern health problems related to the jaw. Non-invasive and invasive procedures are available to resolve a range of conditions including TMJ pain, malocclusion or having incorrect bite, involuntary clenching and grinding of teeth, difficulty in chewing, misaligned jaw, and so on.
The next step to tooth extraction is dental implantation. This is done to strengthen weak teeth or replace a missing tooth. There are different types of implants, and you could learn more about them elsewhere. What is important to point out is that this procedure has become so much easier, faster, and less expensive in recent years. Patients could return to their normal eating habits just a week after the procedure.
Oral diagnosis is an essential aspect of a good dental center. This important is much as there are traitor dental diseases whose symptoms are very minimal but later could explode with devastating complications. Dentists are well-informed about the signs and symptoms of an oral problem. Even if you don’t experience teeth problems, it is very important to have a regular check-up twice or thrice a year in order to monitor your condition. This way, you can ensure that your gums, teeth, jaw and other oral parts are soundly functioning and doing their part in keeping that confident smile of yours.
