A relative of mine recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She was incredibly happy as she was constantly worried there would be complications associated with the delivery. After a week she was discharged from the hospital and couldn't wait to get the baby home. About a month after she gave birth she become extremely depressed and morbid. She disliked her body as she was now grossly overweight. At times she didn't think she could cope with being a mother as it was the responsibility was immense, and it's the little things too - being organized with changing bags when out shopping etc. She conjured up this idea that her husband was no longer fond of her. She was fortunate that she had a loving and caring husband who could attend to the baby while she was feeling depressed. She could not bring herself to get up during the night as she felt miserable. My relative decided to speak to her medical doctor who prescribed her some anti-depressants which actually worked. They took some time to be effective but now she adores looking after her son and is very proud of him.
